The State Line Area Narcotics Team (SLANT), in a joint investigation with the Belvidere Boone Narcotics Unit, arrested two Belvidere residents for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance (methamphetamine), unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, unlawful possession of a firearm with a revoked FOID and armed violence.

Elizabeth Mendoza, 42, of the 11000 block of Caledonia Road, Belvidere, was arrested and charged with three counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) a class X felony, one count of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance (methamphetamine) a class X felony, one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon a class 3 felony and one count of armed violence a class X felony.

Angel Alvarado, 22, of the 11000 block of Caledonia Road, Belvidere, was arrested and charged with two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) a class X felony and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm with a revoked FOID a class 3 felony.

The arrests of Mendoza and Alvarado comes after SLANT agents, Belvidere Boone Metro Narcotics Unit, members of the Illinois State Police S.W.A.T team and members of the Belvidere Boone S.W.A.T team concluded a narcotics investigation with the execution of search warrants at Mendoza and Alvarado’s residences. Seized as a result of the search warrants were 233 grams of methamphetamine, 9.3 grams of cocaine, 8 pills of Xanax and 5 firearms.

Class X felonies are punishable by 6 to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Class 1 felonies are punishable by 4 t0 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Class 3 felonies are punishable by 2 to 5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Class 4 felonies are punishable by 1 to 3 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

These charges are only an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
