On Monday, May 4, 2020 the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and several other law enforcement agencies escorted Deputy Scott Bowers from the Winnebago Coroner’s Office to a funeral home in Oregon, Illinois. Deputy Bowers passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2020 from an apparent heart attack; Deputy Bowers was 37 years old. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office, Rockford Police Department, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Rockford Park District Police, Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon Police Department, Rockford Fire Department and Oregon Fire Department for the assistance. The drone video was provided by the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office and allows everyone to view the long standing law enforcement tradition of moving a fallen officer.
