Update from officials:

Police arrested 19-year-old Jose J. Gonzalez Jr.

On April 13, the unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member — a class 2 felony charge — was approved against Gonzalez. A warrant was issued for Gonzalez’ arrest

RS Note: They still have yet to confirm the officer was transported to the ER.
The 19 year old and a police officer were transported to a local ER to be treated.

Officials  said the incident began at Central and Michigan with a traffic stop and the vehicle fled.  The incident ended in the 400 block of Illinois when a subject got out and fled on foot.  The officer chased the 19 year old into the backyard of a residence. At some point during the incident, the Rockford officer fired at the 19 year old. The 19 year old was hit by the officers gunfire and transported to the ER with what officers are saying is non life threatening injuries.  Officials  said that a weapon and a laser were recovered from the scene.

The Mayor released this:

“There was a shooting last night involving a Rockford police officer. As officers tried to pull a vehicle over, an occupant fled and a foot chase ensued. During the interaction, the officer fired at the suspect, who sustained non-life threatening injuries. A handgun and a laser sight were recovered from the scene. Chief Dan O’Shea immediately asked the Winnebago-Boone County Integrity Task Force to investigate the actions of all of those involved. I appreciate the difficult work ahead for the independent task force and the State’s Attorney as they thoroughly examine the facts of the case. I also appreciate that the task force and the State’s Attorney have committed to providing biweekly updates to the community. I ask the community to respect the investigation and reserve judgement on the officer and citizen involved.”
