Vehicle in River Prompts Late-Night Water Rescue Response in Rockton
ROCKTON, IL — Emergency crews were dispatched late Friday night to the Rock River after reports of a vehicle in the water near downtown Rockton.
At approximately 10:31 PM CST, the Rockton Fire Department was dispatched to the 430 block of Race Street for a reported water rescue. Initial information indicated that a vehicle had entered the river, prompting an active response from fire personnel. Unit RFG1 was among the resources assigned to the incident.
Race Street runs adjacent to the Rock River, an area where access to the water is close and conditions can be hazardous at night due to limited visibility, cold water temperatures, and swift currents. Because of these risks, water rescue calls are typically handled with heightened caution and specialized equipment.
At this time, official details remain limited. It has not yet been confirmed how the vehicle entered the river, whether anyone was inside the vehicle at the time, or if any injuries occurred. Authorities have not released information regarding the number of occupants or whether rescue or recovery operations were required.
Firefighters and other responding agencies are trained to assess scene safety first, including determining water conditions, vehicle stability, and the potential need for dive or boat operations. Traffic in the immediate area may have been impacted while crews worked the scene.
This is a developing situation. Additional information is expected to be released by officials once the incident is fully assessed and operations are completed.
RockfordScanner will continue to monitor this incident and provide updates as confirmed information becomes available
