I had the honor of meeting a gentleman today by the name of Terry Johnson.
I decided to enjoy the beautiful weather and go for a nature hike in the woods.
As I was out in the woods, I came across Terry.
Him and I began talking for awhile, and he showed me this amazing book!
I have always enjoyed learning the history of Rockford and the surrounding areas.
Terry had a wealth of knowledge about the area.
You could tell he was passionate about the history of the area.
He was nice enough to show me several areas of past history, in person.
I will say that was one of the best conversations I have had with someone in awhile.
He had the book with him, It was called “Harlem Township in Winnebago County”
He was nice enough to let me look through the book.
But what was awesome, as we hiked, he was showing me different photos inside the book that was several decades old. And there we stood, at the same exact places that were in the photos. It was kind of like my own personal history lesson, in person on a nature hike. It was an awesome experience.
I love to learn the history of the area, and I definitely learned a lot today!
I want to take a second and give a huge shout out to Terry, and those who made the book.
He said he was a co-author of the book.
Also, Terry said his daughter is a huge fan of Rockford Scanner.
So a huge shout out goes to his daughter as well, for being a huge fan of RS!
What an amazing piece of history!
