Christmas TOY & FOOD drive for The Salvation Army

From Chelsie Lesinski

I am coordinating a Christmas TOY & FOOD drive for The Salvation Army of Rockford and Winnebago County, and I need your help!
This year more than ever, families are going to be struggling to put food on the table and presents under the tree. The holidays should be spent enjoying time with your family and loved ones, without having to worry about where your next meal is going to come from, how you’re going to provide clothes that fit your growing family, or affording Christmas presents for your children. We as a community can help eliminate those worries by donating nonperishable/nonexpired food items, new (unwrapped) toys, and new (unworn with tags) clothing items. (When shopping, please consider ages newborn – 15 years old)

Items can be dropped off at either of the locations below:
Gem Shop & Diamond Source, L.L.C. – 110 W Main Street, Rockton, IL 61072 (815) 624-6667
South Beloit Fire Department – 429 Gardner Street, South Beloit, IL 61080 (815) 389-3097
Donations will be picked up from each location and dropped off to The Salvation Army weekly.

Donation pickups from your home are also available, please PM me for details.

Donation deadline is 12/10/20. Unfortunately, The Salvation Army cannot do their regular open Christmas shopping for families due to COVID-19, so they will need some extra time to sort and distribute all donation items to each family in need.

If you are looking for another way to get involved, The Salvation Army offers a wonderful “Adopt-a-Family” program, where you can anonymously sponsor an entire family. This helps address a family’s specific needs during the holiday season. You will get to pick the size of the family you wish to sponsor, and will receive a list of the children’s ages, clothing sizes, and Christmas lists.

For more information or to apply to be a sponsor, please contact Major Teri Martsolf at (815) 226-4400.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you all!
