On February 18th at approx. 6:15 am the Rockford Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the East side.
It happened at 1652 5th ave.
Rockford FD responded with 3 engines, 2 ladder trucks, 2 chiefs and 23 firefighters and 1 ambulance.
When they arrived on scene there was heavy smoke and flames showing from the first floor of the structure.
The RFD battled the fire for approx. 20 minutes before bringing it under control.
No injuries were reported.
2 cats were rescued, but sadly a 3rd cat did not survive.
The estimated damages are around $20,000.
The RFD are investigating the fire.
