Rockford Fire to Host Open Houses for National Fire Prevention Week
ROCKFORD, Ill. – In observance of National Fire Prevention Week, the City of Rockford Fire Department will be hosting an Open House at the following two fire stations:
Fire Station 5 Fire Station 3
391 N. Trainer Road 888 Marchesano Drive
Saturday, October 5, 2024 Saturday, October 12, 2024
9 a.m. – 1 p.m. 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
At this event, families can take a tour of the fire station, meet local firefighters, and get a close up look at the fire trucks and equipment. This is a great opportunity to learn more about fire safety and the services the Rockford Fire Department offers the community.
This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you!” strives to educate everyone about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home.
Early notification gives people the best chance of survival during a house fire and is essential to making certain that our homes are safe for our family and friends. On average, families have less than three minutes from the time the first smoke alarm sounds to escape a fire. The presence of working smoke alarms reduces the risk of dying in a house fire in half. It is recommended that working UL listed smoke alarms are installed on every floor of the home, in hallways, in living areas, inside bedrooms and outside of sleeping areas.
The State of Illinois law enacted on January 1, 2023, requires any new smoke alarm being installed within a single of multi-family home to be featured with a 10-year sealed battery. This helps to avoid the concern of dead or missing batteries in alarms, which accounts for half of smoke alarm failures. Please remember to test your smoke alarms every month.
