Winnebago County State’s Attorney J. Hanley announces that the Honorable Judge Brendan
Maher sentenced Corterryis D. Ford (DOB: 2/3/1996) to 17 years in the Illinois Department of
Corrections for Aggravated Battery and 17 years for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
Ford previously plead guilty to both offenses. The defendant will also be on mandatory supervised release
for three years after he is released. The sentences will run concurrently and must be served at 85%.
On March 30, 2022, Rockford Police Officers responded to the area of North Alpine Road
and Cleveland Avenue for a shooting victim inside a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to his legs. He was transported to a Rockford Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
At the scene, Detectives met with witnesses, including the
defendant’s mother. She told police her son, Corterryis Ford, opened the front door of her residence,
stood in the doorway and fired a gun towards her while she was still in her vehicle. Officers set up a
perimeter in the backyard of a home in the 2500 block of Skokie Drive.
SWAT arrived on the scene, and were able to break through the front door of the residence. Ford shot at the tactical armored vehicle and hit the driver’s side door. Ford also shot at and destroyed the bomb squad robot. He fled
the residence, got into his vehicle with officers in pursuit. Ford eventually pulled over at Appleton
and 6th Street in Belvidere and was taken into custody.
The Rockford Police Department conducted the investigation in this case. Assistant State’s
Attorney Alison Meason handled the prosecution.

Ford se declaró culpable previamente de ambos delitos. El acusado también estará en libertad supervisada obligatoria durante tres años después de su liberación. Las sentencias se cumplirán simultáneamente y deberán cumplirse al 85 %.
