Multiple Charges in Recent Robberies/Burglaries
Rockford, IL – Between Tuesday, November 19, 2024 through Saturday, November 23, 2024,
the Rockford Police Department responded to a string of armed robberies, burglaries, and
home invasions in the Rockford area – some involving seniors and the use of a ruse to gain
entry to some of the residences. The various locations are as follows:
– 1400 block of Post Drive
– 600 block of Regan Street
– 3800 block of Kentucky Drive
– 500 block of Dawson Avenue
– 3700 block of Florida Drive
– 200 block of Oak Grove North
After an extensive investigation by Violent Crimes Detectives and assistance from the Intel
Unit, they were able to identify the suspects as James Houston, Jazmune Houston, and Jamal
Trotter.
After reviewing the facts of the case, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office
authorized the charges listed below. Jamal Trotter and Jazmune Houston were taken into
custody, lodged in jail, and were later released by the courts after their pre-trial detention
hearings. James Houston is not currently in custody.

Home Invasion/Causes Injury (Florida Dr)

Armed Robbery (Regan Street)
Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Defaced Serial Number
Jazmune Houston, 32, Rockford
Possession of Another’s Credit Card (2 counts) (Post Dr)
Theft (2 counts) (Post Drive)
Burglary (Oak Grove Ave N)
As stated above, the suspects used a ruse during the robberies. These included the victims
being asked to assist with a search for a lost dog, asking for a bottle of water once inside a
residence, and knocking on a car window asking if they knew where a certain location was.
To avoid this happening to you or your loved ones, please use these tips yourself and share:
• Always keep your doors and windows locked. Install dead-bolt locks on all outside doors.
• Keep your home well-lit at night, inside and out, and keep your curtains closed at night.
• Ask for proper identification from delivery drivers or strangers. Don’t be afraid of asking –
if they are legitimate, they won’t mind. And don’t feel that you have to open the door
even if they are legitimate and you didn’t ask them for assistance.
• Don’t let anyone draw you out of your home.
• If a stranger asks to use your phone, offer to place the call for him/her yourself through
the door. Don’t open the door and never let a stranger into your home.
• Do not leave notes on your door when you are gone, and do not hide your keys under
the mat or in other conspicuous places.
• Never give out information over the phone indicating you are alone or that you won’t be
home at a certain time.
• When you are gone for more than a day, make sure your home looks and sounds
occupied – use automatic timers to turn on lights and leave a radio or television on.
• Give a friend or family member a key to stop by at various times while you are away.
• Don’t sit in your car in the street, your driveway or your garage.
• If someone knocks on your window or door, don’t open either one and drive away if
possible.
• Install a video security system if possible or a video doorbell.

exceptional diligence and dedication in identifying the suspects involved in these cases and
collaborating with the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office to secure charges,” said
Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd.
“Your hard work and commitment to thorough investigations are a testament to the
professionalism and perseverance that define the Rockford Police Department. Your efforts
not only bring justice to those affected but also reinforce the trust and confidence our
community places in us.”
As with all investigations, there may be additional charges and arrests.
The charges are merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless proven
guilty in a court of law.
