Below is my personal opinion on what may have allegedly happened,
Based on the current information that has been provided to me.
Winnebago County State’s Attorney J. Hanley announces that Joseph A. Pumilia (DOB:
1/5/1991) was sentenced to 12 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for Conspiracy to
Commit Aggravated Arson and 12 years in the Department of Corrections for Arson by the
Honorable Judge Jennifer Clifford. He plead guilty to the offenses in September. As part of his
sentence, Pumilia will be on mandatory supervised release for one year after he is released from
prison. The two prison terms will be served concurrently and at 50%.
On September 3, 2023, Rockford Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire in the 1600
block of Virginia Avenue. Upon arrival, responding companies found a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix
in the driveway of a residence, engulfed in flames. The fire caused damage to the home, and the
vehicle was a total loss.
Rockford Fire Department Investigators determined the fire to have been
intentionally set. During the investigation, the victim’s ex-boyfriend, Redwine, Jr., was
developed as a suspect. At the time of the fire, Redwine had recently been incarcerated in the
Winnebago County Jail on domestic related charges involving the same victim. Winnebago
County Sheriff’s Detectives uncovered evidence that while incarcerated, and in the days leading
up to the fire, Redwine conspired with his family, including the defendant, Joseph Pumilia, to
retaliate for his pending domestic violence charges.
Connie Gille was charged and plead guilty to Conspiracy charges for her role in this incident.
Redwine was also charged and plead guilty to
Residential Arson charges. He was sentenced to eight years in the Illinois Department of
Corrections in October.
Conspiracy to Commit Arson is a Class 1 Felony, and in this case is punishable by a
sentence of 4-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by 1 year of
Mandatory Supervised Release.
Arson is a Class 2 Felony, and in this case is punishable by a sentence of 3-14 years in
the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by 1 year of Mandatory Supervised Release.
