UPDATE:
Murder on N. Rockton Avenue
ROCKFORD, IL – On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at approximately 7:10 p.m.,
Rockford Police officers responded to the 1700 block of N. Rockton Avenue for reports
of shots fired and a female gunshot victim. When officers arrived, they observed a
26-year-old female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to a
local hospital where she died from her injuries.
Rockford Police Detectives continued to investigate the murder and identified a suspect,
Demond Curry, who was known to the victim. After a review of the facts of the case, The
Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the charges listed below and a
warrant was issued. Curry is not in custody at this time.

Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (3)
Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon
The charges are merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless
proven guilty in a court of law.

from her gunshot wounds sustained in the shooting on N. Rockton.
A 3rd shooting is being reported

SHOOTING INVESTIGATION:
North and South lanes of Rockton between Vernon and Yonge
are closed down while we investigate the shooting of an adult female.
She was transported to a local hospital
for life-threatening injuries.
