Charges After Altercation at Welsh School
ROCKFORD, IL – On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at approximately 9:35 a.m.,
Rockford Police School Resource Officers responded to Welsh School (2100 Huffman
Boulevard) for reports of a staff member being battered by an adult female, later
identified as Shakeda Barfield.
When officers arrived, they were advised that a battery occurred between Barfield and a staff member. Officers learned that during a meeting
with Barfield, the staff member observed baggies of suspected cocaine fall from her
person and the staff member collected them. A fight ensued, the school was locked
down and 911 was called.
The staff member sustained multiple non-life-threatening injuries. Barfield was taken into custody and subsequently lodged in the County Jail.
After a review of the facts of the case, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office
authorized the charges listed below.
Shakeda Barfield, 33, Rockford
Possession of a Controlled Substance
Possession with Intent to Deliver Controlled Substance
Aggravated Battery/Strangulation
Aggravated Battery to School Employee
Disorderly Conduct
The charges are merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless
proven guilty in a court of law.
