City of Rockford Releases Information on The Jefferson st Project

WEST JEFFERSON ST WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT & LINING
The West Jefferson St water main & lining project began the week of June 17, 2024. As
of July 9, 2024, W Jefferson St is closed from Wyman to Church St for Water Main
Construction. In addition, West Jefferson St has lane closures in place between N
Church St & Kilburn Ave while ongoing water main construction occurs. The West
Jefferson water main & lining project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2024.
Citizens are urged to use an alternative route for the duration of this closure.
Please note all businesses and residences, will remain accessible throughout this
project.
The West Jefferson St water main & lining project consists of replacing 100+ years old
high-risk water main, lead service line replacement, fire hydrants, driveway
approaches, sidewalk, curb & gutter, and patching of the roadway. This project will also
use a cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) lining technology in sections that have significant
conflicts for replacing with new pipe. All disturbed areas of the project will be restored
upon completion of project.
All work is dependent on the proper weather conditions. Drivers are reminded to
obey work zone speed limits and to stay alert for workers when driving near the work
area.
