UPDATE: Murder Suspect in Custody
ROCKFORD, Ill. – On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at approximately 6:11 p.m., Rockford
Police officers responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Haskell Avenue for reports
of shots fired. While en route, officers received reports of a male gunshot victim outside
of the residence. When officers arrived, they located 29-year-old Marquell Reddic on the
sidewalk suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local
hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Rockford Police Violent Crimes Detectives continued the investigation into the murder
and identified two suspects, Eric Townsend Sr. and Timothy Chatman. After a review of
the facts of the case, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the
charges listed below.
Eric Townsend Sr., 51, Rockford First Degree Murder
Timothy Chatman, 42, Rockford First Degree Murder
UPDATE: Townsend Sr. was seen by a Rockford Police Officer while
walking in the area of the 1000 block of Chamberlain. He ran away but was taken into
custody a short time later and lodged in the County Jail.
Chatman is not currently in custody.
The charges are merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless
proven guilty in a court of law.
