Update on the Whitman/School st Construction Project

Southbound and Northbound Kilburn Avenue traffic lanes will be reduced to one lane each direction
at Whitman Street for water main installation work starting on Monday May 13, 2024. This work shall
be completed by Friday May 17, 2024.

The Whitman Street Reconstruction project continues as planned. Phase 1A of this project will be the
reconstruction of School Street from Kilburn Avenue to Underwood Street. School Street from
Underwood to Avon Street including the intersection of Avon Street and School Street will be closed
for water main replacement work. This section of School Street will be closed to through traffic.
Completion of Phase 1A will be August, 2024.

All appropriate traffic control measures and marked detour routes will be in place to help safely guide
traffic.

Local residents will have full access to their homes during the closure and all mail services, deliveries,
trash pickup and emergency services will not be interrupted during the closure for residents. All
businesses remain open throughout construction and will be accessible.

This project consists of pavement removal and replacement, driveway approach removal and
replacement, sidewalk, and curb and gutter removal and replacement, storm sewer upgrades, water
main and water service replacement, sanitary sewer improvements, traffic signal upgrades, and striping,
as needed, to complete the Whitman/School Street Reconstruction project.

This project is funded by the City of Rockford 1% Infrastructure Sales Tax, along with the Water
Replacement Improvement Account, and the Four Rivers Sanitation Authority.
