One Person Arrested For Allegedly Trying to Burn Down A Rockford High Rise Building
City of Rockford release:
ROCKFORD, Ill. – On October 16, 2023, at 6:11 a.m., the City of Rockford Fire Department responded to a high-rise fire at 511 N. Church St. Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke and multiple fires located on three floors. As crews suppressed the fires, other firefighters evacuated and protected the residents.
Rockford Fire Investigators were called to the scene. Upon completion of the scene investigation, the incident was determined to be arson. After collecting evidence and conducting interviews, a suspect was located. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s office issued an arrest warrant for Sally Jay Coleman, 56, of Rockford, IL. Coleman was charged for setting multiple fires in an occupied residential high-rise with the following charges:
AGGRAVATED ARSON
AGGRAVATED BATTERY TO A PEACE OFFICER
ARSON TO PERSONAL PROPERTY
THREATEN A PUBLIC OFFICIAL
KNOWINGLY DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
Damages were estimated at $20,000 and no injuries were reported.
Coleman is lodged at the Winnebago County Jail with No Bond.
