Our Opinion:
What May Have Allegedly Happened.
Based on the current information
That has currently been provided to us.
On Saturday, September 2, 2023, at approximately
11:50 p.m., Rockford Police officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of 21st Avenue for
a report of a burglary in progress. Officers were advised that the suspect, later identified as Aaron
Watson, and three residents were inside, and that he was in possession of a rifle. The suspect was
known to the residents. When officers arrived, the three residents exited unharmed, and Watson
remained in the house with other various weapons. Rockford Police continued to negotiate with
Watson and at approximately 3:45 a.m., he exited the residence and was taken into custody.
Officers were able to locate and recover the rifle from inside the house. Watson was transported
to a local hospital and will be lodged in the County Jail upon his release.
After a review of the facts of the case, The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office
authorized the charges listed below for Watson.
Aaron Watson, 33, Rockford
Domestic Battery
Criminal Damage to Property
Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon
Possession of a Defaced Firearm
As with any and all investigations, there may be future charges and arrests.
The charges are merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless proven
guilty in a court of law.
