Rockford Man Charged after Accidental Shooting
ROCKFORD, IL – Rockford Police officers responded to a local hospital on Wednesday, May 10,
2023, for a report of a walk-in shooting victim. Upon arrival, officers were advised that as the
victim, Corey Jackson, was walking near a convenience store, he was shot in the ankle by
unknown individuals. As officers continued to investigate the injury, they believed that Jackson
accidentally shot himself. During the subsequent investigation, officers located and recovered a
spent shell casing, ammunition, and a shotgun, from the victim’s residence. Officers were also
able to locate and recover a loaded handgun with an extended magazine, and an automatic
switch.
After a review of the facts of the case, The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office
authorized the charges listed below.
Corey Jackson, 18, Rockford
Possession of a Machine Gun
Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
Possession of a Firearm
Reckless Discharge
Child Endangerment
The charges are merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless proven
guilty in a court of law.
