Murder Investigation after Shooting and Traffic Crash
ROCKFORD, Ill. – Rockford Police officers responded to the area of 1st Avenue and Charles Street
for a report of a traffic crash. Upon arrival, officers observed a 26-year-old man suffering from an
apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced
deceased. Directly before the crash, officers received calls regarding shots fired in the area of
Chestnut and Winnebago Streets. Witnesses observed an occupant of a white SUV shooting out
of the window towards the victim’s car. The SUV, reported stolen out of Chicago, was located,
unoccupied, a short time later near Delaware Street and Newport Avenue.
As with any and all investigations, further details and charges may come at a later date.
