...Slick Spots on Roads Following a Burst of Snow...

A burst of snow pushing east of I-39 as of 1130 AM produced some
patchy pavement accumulation based off Rockford area webcams.
Motorists who plan to be driving through early afternoon should be
prepared to encounter patchy snow and slush on some roads,
particularly elevated and less traveled roadways. Slow down and
increase following distance.

View of State Street in Rockford (webcam courtesy of WIFR) when a heavy snow shower moved across the Rockford area between 11:15-11:30 AM. Scattered heavier snow showers near and north of I-88 will produce brief bursts of snow through ~1PM as they push east.

Visibility in the heaviest snow will drop briefly below 1/2 mile with a quick slushy accumulation on some roads – elevated and less traveled roadways to patchy pavement accumulations. If you will be out driving & encounter snow, slow down and increase following distance.

Wintry weather remains today with some light early morning flurries possible, and decent chance for snow showers this afternoon into this evening. Chances for flurries and snow showers remain Friday into Saturday. Colder temperatures Friday morning into the weekend, with coldest temperatures Sunday morning, with wind chills at or below zero. Mostly clear starting Sunday, with a warming trend starting next week.
