Where at:  220 S Lyford Rd/Days Inn 

When:  Approximately 11:30 pm

Brief information on what may have happened: 

At approximately 11:30 this evening emergency personnel were called to 220 N Lyford Road,
at the Days Inn in Rockford, for reports of a shooting victim.

Initial reports are a male entered the hallway/lobby area
asking for help because he was shot in the lower abdominal area.

It is unknown at this time if the actual shooting occurred on site or elsewhere,
One source is saying the shooting happened about 10 minutes earlier than it was being reported.

Police were searching the parking lot area,
And have evidence markers in the parking lot. 

The male shooting victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
The severity of his injuries are unknown.

Please avoid the area.

Police located the alleged suspect vehicle (Silver/Grey Mustang)  in the area of Sawyer and 19th st. 

UPDATE #2  Police have detained a subject near Alpine and Sandy Hollow, 
That might have been the alleged suspect. Not yet confirmed. 

We will update when/if further information is released.

Update from the Cherry Valley PD:

CHERRY VALLEY, IL – September 21, 2022 – At 11:30p, last night Cherry Valley Police Officers
responded to the Days Inn at 220 S. Lyford for a victim who had been shot in the parking lot and
then walked into the Days Inn.

The suspect was known to the victim and was quickly identified.

The suspect vehicle was located a short time later in Rockford and following a pursuit and K-9 intervention, he was
taken into custody.

The victim underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
Further investigation and follow up has been turned over to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Detective Bureau.

Officers from the Rockford Police Department and Deputies from the Winnebago County
Sheriff’s Department assisted in this incident.

This was a targeted attack and no additional danger is posed to the community.
