Happy start to the week! For some, it began with hail late last evening, in particular a few of the western and northwestern Chicago suburbs. A more significant severe episode with winds and hail occurred near I-74 in central Illinois.
The storms were supercell storms in that they had rotation, which for the storms over northern Illinois remained mostly aloft. Very strong updrafts and tilted structures resulted, and in turn large hail occurred. These storms also had extremely frequent lightning!

Tomorrow will feel like July with summer-like with heat and humidity (practice heat safety!). A cold front will then arrive Wednesday and usher in fall-like temperatures to close the workweek. Move the flannel to the front of your closet!

The combination of heat and humidity tomorrow (Tuesday) will make it feel more like July than September. Practice heat safety by limiting time in the sun, drinking plenty of water, and wear sunscreen and light clothing.
