On Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at approximately 11:25 p.m., Rockford Police
officers responded to a residence in the 2500 block of 17th Avenue in reference to
reports of shots fired and a shooting victim. Upon arrival, officers located 48-year-old
Martha Maschke suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. She was transported
to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injury.

During the subsequent investigation, Rockford Police detectives were able to identify a
13-year-old male as the suspect. After a review of the facts of the case, the Winnebago
County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the charge listed below and an arrest warrant
was issued. He is currently in custody at the Juvenile Detention Center on unrelated
charges.

The charges against him are merely accusations. He is considered innocent unless
proven guilty in a court of law.
