Rockford Weather: Flood Watch & Heat Advisory For Today…

Scattered thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and continued into the evening hours. Some of the storms will likely become severe with locally damaging winds the primary severe threat.

Thunderstorms capable of producing torrential rainfall are expected to develop this afternoon and continue this evening across much of the region. A flood watch has been issued for the Chicago metro area and Rockford and vicinity due to greater flash flood risk because of Monday evening’s heavy rainfall.

under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

upon the latest forecasts. Persons with interests along area rivers,
creeks, and other waterways should monitor the latest forecasts and
be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

well roadways, underpasses, and other poor drainage areas.
