Possible Flash Flooding in Rockford

First and foremost: “TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN”

As the storms rolled through this evening, so did the heavy rains.
Officially at the Rockford Airport,  it was just under a half inch of rain.
But many people are reporting more rainfall in other areas of Winnebago County.

We are getting reports of possible flash flooding
And some drivers trying to navigate through the rising waters, have stalled out their vehicles.

There is no active watches or warnings for flash flooding.

The  flash flooding may be due to some of the drainage areas,  possibly blocked by debris.

Most of the reports are saying there is a few inches to a few feet of standing water covering some local roadways.

We do know of 1 incident that happened near Burrmont rd.
(That is located SW of Alpine and Highcrest.)
That may have been an accident, and may have need a possible water rescue due to the rising waters.
They were not able to open their door, due to the rising waters.
We do not know the outcome of that incident.

As you know when it rains the following areas are always prone to flooding:
Broadway viaduct, Charles by Swedish American, And Central ave just North of Auburn.
You want to avoid those areas at all costs, when it rains.

No reports of any injuries.

If you see any standing water across the roadway, turn around.
If you see any flooding, please let us know:
