Rockford Scanner™: 1 Person Arrested For DUI And A Firearm, After Crashing in Downtown Rockford, Then Fleeing.

AGGRAVATED UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON: On Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at approximately
12:00 a.m., Rockford Police officers responded to the area of E. State and 3rd Streets for reports
of a single vehicle crash. Upon arrival, witnesses advised that the driver exited the vehicle and
walked into a business in the 500 block of E. State Street. The driver, Amair Davis, was located
inside the business and was in possession of a loaded handgun. He was transported to a local
hospital and treated for injuries sustained in the crash.
After a review of the facts of this case, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office
authorized the charges listed below.

Sources are reporting a major scene in downtown Rockford overnight.

A vehicle was reported to be excessively speeding in the downtown area,

then crashed into the planter near the Irish Rose.

The driver got out and fled on foot,

Numerous officers were reported to be searching for the suspect.
The police were able to capture the suspect.

The suspect is alleged to have walked  into a nearby business, that had a band practicing. 

Initial reports said the driver had a firearm in his possession.

Rockford PD have not released any information.
