Winnebago County coroner’s Office released the following:

Location of Incident: Cherryvale Mall, Macy’s parking Lot
Deceased: Mclin, Marcus
Age: 25 year old male of Rockford
Pronounced dead: 4/2/2022 at 8:35 PM

Narrative:
Mr. McLin was involved in a shooting incident in the parking lot of Macy’s at Cherryvale Mall. He was
pronounced dead on scene. Autopsy showed that he died of injuries received in the shooting. The death is
under investigation by the Cherry Valley Police and Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.




One person is confirmed to have passed away at the scene. 
No more info. on the victim at this time.

Black male in a white 2017 Dodge Charger license plate number CL91939 or similar wearing a white and black Varsity jacket, blue jeans and blue shoes, armed with a unknown type gun last seen traveling eastbound from CherryVale on Harrison Avenue.




UPDATE FROM THE CHERRY VALLEY PD:
April 2, 2022 – At approximately 7:10pm the Cherry Valley Police
Department was notified of a shooting in the parking lot of Macy’s, 7200 Harrison, Cherry
Valley, IL.

When officers arrived they found an unresponsive male subject near a vehicle
suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Deputies from the Winnebago County
Sheriff’s Department and officers from the Rockford Police Department provided assistance to
ensure that the area inside and outside the mall were safe.

 

Based on information developed since the shooting, we believe this was a targeted attack and there is no further threat to public
safety. As a precaution, police presence in and around the mall will be increased for the next
few days. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Detective Division is leading the investigation. This is an active
and dynamic investigation. No other information will be released at this time.

Brief synopsis of what may have happened:

We have multiple reports of shots fired /shooting at CherryVale Mall tonight.

Initial reports are shots were fired outside Macy’s at CherryVale Mall and at least one person was shot.

The alleged suspect involved in the shooting was a black male in a white 2017 Dodge Charger license plate number CL91939 or similar wearing a white and black Varsity jacket, blue jeans and blue shoes, armed with a unknown type gun last seen traveling eastbound from CherryVale on Harrison Avenue.

We will update when we receive further information.

Police are responding to a critical incident in the parking lot area outside Macy’s department store at the CherryVale Mall.
