Local Roadways Are About To Become A lot More Slippery

…WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM FRIDAY…

* WHAT…Snow covered and slippery roads expected due to snow.
Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches, highest near the
lake in northeast Illinois.

* WHERE…Winnebago, Lake IL, McHenry and Boone Counties.

* WHEN…Until 6 AM CST Friday.

* IMPACTS…Plan on snow covered roads and slippery road
conditions. The hazardous conditions will likely impact this
evening’s commute and possibly impact the start of the Friday
morning commute.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Several accidents have already been reported today across Winnebago County.
RS source sent us this photo of one of those accidents.
This was near the Riverside Bridge, East side in the westbound lanes.

Slow down and use caution while traveling.

As of the 2 PM hour, the snow is developing across the area from southwest to northeast, The consistently heaviest snow through 4 PM will be south of the Kankakee River, where area roads are already at least partially snow covered. To the north, the overall snow intensity will be lighter with occasional heavier bursts. Leave extra time to reach your destination this afternoon. Slow down and increase following distance when driving on snow covered roads.
