Rockford Scanner™: Police Capture A Suspect That Tried To Flee From Them in Rockford



AGGRAVATED UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON: On Monday, February 21, 2022, at approximately
4:05 p.m., Rockford Police SCOPE officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of N.
Winnebago and Avon Streets when the vehicle fled from officers.

The vehicle was located near N. Winnebago and Benderwirt and an adult male, later identified as Brandon McKenzie,
was observed fleeing on foot. After a brief pursuit, he was taken into custody and lodged in the
County Jail.

During the investigation, officers located two loaded handguns.
The facts of the case were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office who
authorized the charges listed below.

Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (2 cts.)

No Valid FOID (2 cts.)
Possession of a Stolen Firearm
Resisting Arrest
