it happened around 12:30 AM near the YMCA at N. 2nd St. and Y Blvd.
several police officers from several jurisdictions are on scene. We have been told that it was a robbery.
The Rockford police and Park District are encrypted and have yet to release any information.
We have been told the alleged suspect is a black male, 5’10, Skinny build, Wearing a black baseball cap, A black and white bandanna, Gray hoodie and blue jeans, Armed with a silver handgun.
The suspect approached the victim and tried to rob the victim in the parking lot of the YMCA near the Whitman st area under the street light. The victim remained level headed and recognized the suspect did not have a lot of training in firearms and recognized some key points and body language in the suspect. With the victim remaining calm and level headed the victim realized he had the advantage over the suspect, because the lack of firearms training and the suspects actions. The victim took advantage of the situation and the victim drove away un-injured and called police. Several officers were on scene very quickly and had swarmed the area looking for the suspect. The victim says he commends the RPD for their great response and their actions. At the time of writing this, no suspect has been located.
