After we posted this, RPD has released information on the incident. The following was released by the RPD:
VEHICULAR INVASION: On Thursday, January 31, 2019, shortly before 7:00 a.m., Rockford Police officers responded to the 900 block of South Mulford Road in reference to a vehicular invasion. The 31-year-old female victim reported that she had been attacked by an unknown male suspect who had apparently been hiding in the back seat of her vehicle.
She reported that while travelling northbound near the intersection of Mulford Road and Newburg Road, the suspect had emerged from the back seat and attempted to choke her. The victim lost control of her vehicle, struck a pile of snow before continuing northbound on Mulford Road. She then pulled into a parking lot in the 900 block of South Mulford Road and stopped her vehicle.
The suspect got out of the vehicle and fled westbound on foot. The victim was unable to provide a detailed suspect description.
She was not injured during the incident and nothing was taken. Just prior to the incident, the victim made a brief stop in the area of Stowmarket Avenue and Harrison Avenue and it is possible the suspect entered the vehicle at that time.
Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit are conducting a follow-up investigation into the incident. The circumstances of this incident are unique and appear to be isolated. Anyone who may have been in the area this morning and may have seen something suspicious is asked to contact Rockford Police at 815-966-2900 or leave an anonymous tip at Rockford Area Crime Stoppers at 815-963-7867.
