On Saturday, May 12, 2018, shortly before 5:00 p.m. Rockford Police Department patrol officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Fairview Avenue in reference to a shooting incident. When they arrived officers located the victim, a 16-year-old male, who was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. Rockford Fire Department personnel also responded to the scene and determined that the victim was deceased.
Detectives from the Rockford Police Department conducted a follow-up investigation into the shooting. Based on the information available at this time, the shooting appears to have been an accident and no foul play is suspected.
The investigation was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, charges were authorized against a 16-year-old juvenile male, who was with the victim at the time of the shooting. The juvenile male was later lodged in the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center on the listed charges. Due to the suspect’s age, his name and photo are not available for release.

The charges against the suspect are merely accusations and not evidence of his guilt. As with defendants in all criminal cases he is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
This is an on-going investigation and no further details are available at this time. Further information will be released should it become available.
UPDATE: Officials confirm a young man is dead. They have not officially said how the man died. Winnebago County Coroner is investigating, and will provide more information later on.

It happened in the area of Fairview and Bluefield on the westside.

...MULTIPLE ROUNDS OF HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE TONIGHT AND AGAIN
Multiple heavy rain producing thunderstorms may train over the
same areas of northern Illinois tonight and again on Sunday night.
Because of this, localized areas of northern Illinois could
experience rainfall amounts in excess of 2 to 3 inches tonight,
with additional heavy rainfall possible Sunday night. Because of
this, there will be an increased threat of flash flooding,
particularly if the heaviest rain producing storms train over the
urbanized areas of Chicago and Rockford. This heavy rain will
also likely result in significant rises and possible flooding on
