Severe weather was predicted to hit the area on Saturday night. A tornado watch was issued. And a short time later a tornado warning was issued.  Law enforcement confirmed a tornado in Ogle County. The tornado did a lot of damage around the Byron Nuclear power plant area.

Numerous power lines and power poles were damaged.  A couple of structures were also damaged.

Thankfully the area it hit, was mostly farmland. Otherwise the damage may have been way worse.

Comed is working through the night to restore power.  But it is going to take awhile, because of the damage.

The hardest hit areas area: N Marrill rd, German Church,  E Holcomb, N Black Walnut, Highway 64

Information is still preliminary. Officials told us that it appears from the damage that it touched down just East of Oregon near 64 and German Church rd.  The tornado then traveled in a North/North East direction. It mainly stayed in the fields, but did cause some damage to power lines, power poles, and some structures. It then lifted as it was approaching the Rockford Airport area.

They were bringing in equipment from the Rockford area to assist with repairing the damage in the area.

Witnesses said they could hear the tornado as it passed nearby. The classic roar of the tornado, as it passed through their field.

No reports of injuries.  NWS is going to be investigating this in the morning.

Several emergency personnel were working several areas.  State police are also assisting.
