Freeport, IL. – 17 year-old girl in custody following an investigation into a large fight that resulted in two juveniles being stabbed.

On June 21st, 2018, at approximately 1:54pm, Freeport Police officers responded to the intersection of Benton Avenue and Jackson Street for a report of a group of approximately fifteen juveniles fighting.

Responding officers located two female juveniles who had reportedly been stabbed by a 17 year-old female juvenile who fled the scene on foot prior to officer’s arrival.

Both of the juvenile stabbing victims were subsequently transported to Freeport Health Network Memorial Hospital by Freeport Fire Department ambulances.

Within minutes of responding to the scene Freeport Police officers located the 17 year-old female juvenile suspect at a home in the 200 block of S. Cherry Avenue, and she was taken into custody without incident.

One of the victims, a 15 year-old female juvenile, was stabbed in the throat area and she was transferred to a Rockford area hospital.

The other victim, a 16 year-old female juvenile, sustained stab wounds to a shoulder and her head, and she is still being treated at FHN Memorial Hospital.

Both victims are in stable condition and neither have life-threatening injuries.

We are not looking for any additional suspects in this case but we are still investigating the actions of other juveniles who may have been involved in the initial fight.

At this time it is believed that this incident started with a pre-arranged fight between two opposing groups of juveniles who have had prior animus.

The 17 year-old female juvenile suspect has been charged with nine (9) counts of Aggravated Battery and she is being held at the Mary Davis Juvenile Detention facility in Galesburg. A detention hearing for the suspect has been scheduled for tomorrow at 2:00pm.
