Attempted Armed Robbery To A Citizen in Rockford



On Wednesday November 23, 2016 at around 2320 hours, Rockford Police officers responded to an attempted armed robbery to a citizen complaint in the 1000 block of Van Wie Ave.  The male victim, a 49 year old  Rockford resident, stated he was taking trash out at a local bar when he was approached by a black male suspect.  The suspect was holding a black handgun and told the victim to give him all his money.  The victim then grabbed the gun and they both struggled over it until the victim was able to wrestle the gun from the suspect.  The suspect then fled southbound and the victim chased after him.  The suspect then ran into a local laundromat and the victim stopped to call police.  While police were en route, the suspect exited the laundromat and fled the scene on foot.  The black handgun used in the attempted robbery  was collected by police on scene.  The victim was not injured during the incident.


Suspect description:  Black male, around 30-40 years old, about 5’7” tall, around 175 lbs, wearing a black jacket and black hat.


This is an ongoing police investigation.

Around 12:22 am this morning a broadcast came over the airwaves in reference to an attempted armed robbery to a citizen. It happened at the tavern at 2327 N Main st.  Suspect is described as a Black male, 5’7, 175 lbs wearing dark clothing. They recovered a gun at the scene.
