Earlier today Mendota Emergency Services responded to a serious traffic crash on I-39 at mile post 72 (Mendota Exit). Upon arrival it was found that a motorist who was fatigued had struck Illinois Department of Motor Vehicle units and put a number of IDOT workers at great risk.
Motorists are reminded that when you are feeling fatigued, take the time to find a safe location and rest. Get out of the vehicle and walk around, get some fresh air. Driving while fatigued can be just as dangerous as driving while impaired from alcohol or drugs.
Thankfully no Illinois Department of Transportation workers were injured in the crash, the driver of the striking vehicle is currently hospitalized. Please stay alert, stay aware and stay safe.
We all want to make it home at the end of the day. Thank you IDOT for all you do. Mendota Police Department
