The Belvidere/Boone County Metro Narcotics Unit and Belvidere Police Department Investigations Section concludes a one month investigation with the arrest of a Rockford woman for Drug Induced Homicide and felony drug charges.
On Friday, January 3rd, 2020, Belvidere Police officers were dispatched to a Belvidere residence for a report of a male suffering from a drug overdose. Despite officers and medical personnel performing lifesaving efforts the individual was pronounced deceased. Belvidere/Boone County Metro Narcotics investigators and Belvidere Felony detectives responded to assist with the investigation.
On Monday, January 20th, 2020, Belvidere/Boone County Metro Narcotics Unit investigators were assisted by Belvidere patrol officers with the arrest of Shyla K. Taylor, age 40, on two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance (class 2 felonies). Taylor was transported to the Boone County Jail where she has been in custody.
On Wednesday, January 29, 2020 investigators met with the Boone County State’s Attorney office and additional charges were authorized related to the fatal overdose which occurred on January 3rd. Taylor was served with an arrest warrant for Drug Induced Homicide (class X felony) and two additional counts of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance. Taylor remains in the custody of the Boone County Jail with a bond of $250,000/10% bond.
Drug Induced Homicide is punishable by 15-30 years in the Department of Corrections and a Class 2 felony is punishable by 3-7 years in the Department of Corrections.
