“The Dixon Police Department Releases Additional Information from the Shooting Investigation that occurred on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.”

UPDATE:

Over the past four months, the Dixon Police Department has spent countless hours investigating the shooting incident that occurred in the 1300 block of West Fourth Street, where two victims were struck by gunfire. Through the course of the investigation, investigators have identified several individuals involved in the shooting incident. The following individuals have been arrested and charged:

Eric L. Thompson, age 26, Chicago, Illinois was arrested in Rockford, Illinois on July 10, 2020. Thompson was taken into custody by the US Marshals Service and transported to the Dixon Police Department. Thompson was charged with ATTEMPTED MURDER, (2 Counts), being a Class X Felony, AGGRAVATED BATTERY, (2 Counts), being a Class X Felony, AGGRAVATED DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM, being a Class 1 Felony.

Clarence W. Prather, age 32, Dixon, Illinois was arrested in Dixon, Illinois on July 16, 2020. Prather was noticed of the charges while incarcerated at the Lee County Jail from a previous case, unrelated to the investigation. Prather was charged with ATTEMPTED MURDER, (2 Counts), being a Class X Felony, AGGRAVATED BATTERY, (2 Counts), being a Class X Felony, AGGRAVATED DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM, being a Class 1 Felony.

The investigation is still ongoing. The Dixon Police Department would like to thank the US Marshals Service with the assistance of the apprehension of Thompson.

SHOOTING INVESTIGATION:

On Wednesday, March 18th at approximately 3:44 a.m., Dixon Police Officers responded to the 1300 block of West Fourth Street after a report of shots being fired in the area. Two victims that were inside of a residence at 1309 West Fourth Street were struck by the gunfire. The victims were a 28-year old female and a 32-year old male. Both subjects were transported to KSB Hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the residence of the female victim had been struck with multiple rounds of gunfire. Investigators are actively pursuing a number of leads obtained during the investigation and the shooting appears to be drug related.

All charges are merely an allegation and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The Department is requesting assistance from the public in an effort to learn the identity of the subject(s) responsible for this incident. Callers do not have to leave their names and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1000.00 that leads to an arrest.
