Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that Jawan H. Robinson (DOB: 5/23/1990) was sentenced to 12 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for Armed Robbery and 10 years for Burglary by the Honorable Judge Brendan Maher.
The defendant will also be on Mandatory Supervised Release for three years after he is released from prison. Robinson pled guilty to both charges on October 16th, 2019. The sentences imposed by the Court will run concurrently and be served at 50%.
On August 14th, 2018, Rockford Police Officers responded to a convenience store in the 1200 Block of 7th Street after a report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival, Officers met with a male victim, who had visible injuries on his head. The victim told police that a male entered the store, jumped over the counter and hit him with a weapon several times. The suspect then forced the victim to open the register then took money and fled the business.
Less than a month later, on September 1st, Rockford Police Officers responded to an alarm at a business located in the 4600 Block of East State Street. Upon arrival, Officers observed the entrance on the Northwest side of the building was heavily damaged.
Surveillance footage showed the defendant, Jawan Robinson, using a vehicle to damage the doors to the business, enter and attempt to dismantle the ATM machine before he fled. Detectives conducted a follow up investigation, and Robinson was developed as a suspect in both the armed robbery and the burglary.
The investigations were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office for charges. Robinson was subsequently indicted by a Winnebago County Grand Jury on Armed Robbery and Burglary charges.
Armed Robbery is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Burglary is a Class 2 Felony that is punishable by an extended sentence of 3-14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
