Rockford Scanner™: Man Pled Guilty For Shooting And Killing A 12 Year old In Rockford


Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that Anthony Shyheem Jenkins (D.O.B. 5/31/2001) pled guilty to First Degree Murder in front of the Honorable Judge Ronald White.

On May 24th, 2017, Rockford Police Officers were dispatched to the area of 4th Street and 16th Avenue after a report of a shooting victim. Upon arrival, Officers found a 12 year old male, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Rockford Fire Department Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital, where despite the best efforts, the male was pronounced deceased. An autopsy conducted by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office revealed the cause of death to be from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Detectives conducted a follow up investigation and the defendant, Anthony Jenkins was developed as a suspect. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the investigation for charges, and Jenkins was subsequently indicted by a Grand Jury on First Degree Murder charges.
First Degree Murder is a Class M Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 20-60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Jenkins is scheduled to be in court again at 8:30am on December 18th, 2019 in front of the Honorable Judge White in Courtroom B at the Winnebago County Justice Center.
