Rockford Scanner: large perimeter set up on Rockford Northwest side, we have been told that it was a shooting scene but police have yet to confirm it

  • by

Numerous sources are reporting a scene on Rockford Northwest side. It happened approximately 1 AM.

Police have a very large perimeter set up. It appears the main crime scene is in the area of Latham & Pierce.

(Sources said officers were out with their guns drawn and the crime scene van was there)

But they have a large perimeter set up in the whole area.

I went to work the scene, and I talk to the supervisor at the scene briefly.

He confirmed there was a large perimeter and a canine assisting. I asked him if he planned on releasing any information on the scene and he said he would have to ask his boss.

So it is unclear if the Rockford Police Department plan on releasing any information at this time.

He did not tell me what happened because it was an ongoing investigation. And did not give me a suspect description.

So if you live in the area and see any suspicious activity please call the Rockford Police Department.

We have been told that it was a shooting scene.

But he couldn’t release any information to confirm that.

If more information becomes available we will update this. If you have any information please contact us.

NOTE: There was a robbery in the general area a little earlier, so it is unknown if the robbery scene is related to this scene. We will be posting more info on that later on.

Update from source: It was a home invasion in the 1500 block of Barton. Shots were fired during the home invasion.  The police were able to locate a suspect in a nearby backyard and also recovered a gun.

Update from RS source Mike Gilson:
Happened on Barton Blvd, shots fired, multiple suspects police took possibly 2 into custody 1 for sure, the rest ran through back yards to get away that’s why K9 units were on scene
