Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that a Grand Jury has returned an indictment against a Rockford man for physically abusing a young child.
On May 15th, 2019, Rockford Police Officers were dispatched to a Rockford hospital in reference to a child abuse investigation.
Upon arrival, Officers met with a doctor who had concerns about the nature of injuries to a young child. The child was suffering from multiple fractures to both of its legs and its left arm. Detectives conducted a follow up investigation that was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office.
As a result, charges were authorized against Ray S. Cherry (DOB: 2/11/2000). Cherry was recently indicted on multiple counts of Aggravated Battery to a Child charges.
Aggravated Battery to a Child is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Cherry scheduled to appear in court at 8:30am on September 19th, 2019, in front of the Honorable Judge Brenden Maher in Courtroom D at the Winnebago County Justice Center.
The charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
