UPDATE: The chase went from the west part of Winnebago County through the Pecatonica area and through the west side of Rockford. At times driving in oncoming traffic. The suspects threw out a gun near 20 and Klinger.
During the chase the police laid down spike strips 3 different times. Each time it was ineffective.
The suspects crashed into 2 different police squad cars during the police chase. 1 squad car was hit at Riverside and Central. And another squad was hit at Elmwood and Owen Center. Unknown on injuries.
The suspects finally crashed for good around 1:25 am on Elmwood rd, just west of Rockton rd. 4 suspects are detained.
On June 16th 2020, at approximately 12:48 a.m. the Freeport Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of Oak Ave. and John St. Upon their arrival, a Ford Escape fled the area at a high rate of speed. A short time later, a Stephenson County Sheriff’s Deputy located the Ford Escape on South St. in Freeport and attempted a traffic stop however the vehicle fled.
A pursuit began with Stephenson County Sheriff squad cars traveling eastbound on US Route 20 into Winnebago County. During the pursuit, the Ford Escape struck a Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office squad car several times. The pursuit ended in the City of Rockford and all the occupants were taken into custody. Multiple charges are pending, awaiting review by the Stephenson County States Attorney’s Office. Assisting the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office during the pursuit were the Illinois State Police District 16, Pecatonica Police Department, Loves Park Police Department, and the Rockford Police Department.

Sources are reporting a high speed police chase near Pecatonica.
Police are currently chasing a suspect in oncoming lanes of traffic going almost 100 mph in oncoming traffic on 20.
Eastbound in the westbound lanes. At one point during the chase the suspect threw out a gun. They have asked for spike strips.
They have laid down spike strips 2 different times, and both times were ineffective.
Also requesting a police k-9, so when the suspect bails they can use the k-9 to assist.
Currently still ongoing, on Winnebago rd northbound from 20.
