Our chances for a period of severe thunderstorms will increase across the area into this evening as a cold front approaches the area. The chances of severe weather cover the entire area, but there is a bit higher threat across north central and parts of northeastern IL. Strong damaging winds and large hail look to be the primary threats. The storm threat will end overnight following the cold frontal passage.
An area of thunderstorms will continue across the upper Midwest today ahead of a cold front. A few isolated storms could arrive into the area this afternoon, both across northern Illinois, but also across east central Illinois and northwest Indiana out ahead of the remnants of the tropical system to our south. A higher chance for storms will come this evening with a potential broken line of possibly severe thunderstorms. Damaging winds and large hail would be the main hazards
Here is the estimated timing for the thunderstorms this evening. Some storms will be capable of producing damaging winds and large hail. This timing may change with later forecast updates, so stay up to date with the latest weather forecasts through the day
