North Park Fire was dispatched to the 8700 block of Harlem Road for a barn fire at 1:23 pm on 5/21/2020. Due to the nature of the call and the lack of fire hydrants in this part of our district, we requested a MABAS alarm very early to insure we had adequate water supply.
Crews made quick work of extinguishing the fire, but some stubborn hot spots remained. It was decided to use Harlem Roscoe’s aerial to hydraulically overhaul the roof line so we didn’t put personnel in danger working on a questionable structure.
Although this barn was set to be torn down soon anyway, this was an excellent opportunity to hone our rural water supply skills. Saving the barn also reduced the risk of damage to construction equipment nearby.
Thanks to all of our auto aid and mutual aid partners that responded to assist. As we always say, we’re fortunate to have some great neighbors who don’t hesitate to help.
