From the NPFD:

At 3:25 this afternoon, North Park Fire was dispatched to a structure fire in the 1000 block of Minns Drive, with a report of people trapped. North Park units arrived on scene in five minutes.

Upon arrival, heavy fire was visible from the front of a six unit apartment building. Crews immediately began fire suppression efforts, as well as searching for potential victims in the apartments. Thankfully, everyone was out of the building prior to our arrival.

Because of the temperatures today as well as the size of the structure and potential for victims, a mutual aid box to the 2nd alarm was activated. This brought a great deal of resources to the scene to assist with overhaul, salvage and allowed crews to be rotated in and out to deal with the heat.

North Park Fire is enormously thankful for the assistance from our many neighboring fire departments and ambulance agencies that responded, to the neighbors that assisted getting residents out of the building prior to our arrival, to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Police as well as the dispatchers at RockCom and MABAS Division 8.

One occupant was transported to the hospital for minor injuries, and one dog and one cat were rescued from the structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
