K-9 Rico Passes Away,
Our Condolences To The LPPD
On February 11, 2021, Rico, an 11 year-old German Shepard police K-9, popular with the community during his tenure, was lost to complications from a medical condition he had fought for some time.
Rico was an invaluable dual-purpose K-9 who joined his handler and partner, Sergeant Erik Meadors, at the Loves Park Police Department in August of 2012.
He was used for narcotics detection, tracking, suspect apprehension, officer protection, and community policing through his retirement, March 1, 2019.
After retirement, Rico was able to live out his life with his handler and family, where their bond grew even stronger. We send our condolences to the family.
