UPDATE: After we posted this, sources said there was no shooting. But a student pulled a gun on someone and was arrested. And that the school and local PD are downplaying the incident.
Pretty sad when the local police lack transparency and can’t even provide simple information on an incident. How hard is it to say “Yes, there was an incident that involved a student pulling a gun on someone and was arrested. But we can’t say anything else on it”
But instead they still choose to not release information and denied our FOIA request.
We were told there was numerous police and emergency personnel at the Hononegah High School at 307 Salem in Rockton on February 6th at 3:35 pm. Sources said there was a shooting incident.
Original tip said” There were numerous emergency personnel working a shooting scene at the Hononegah High School on February 6th 2020 at just after 3:30 pm
As you can see from the call logs, there was a confirmed weapons violation
We filed a Freedom of Information Act request on it, to confirm or deny the tip information.
And the Rockton Police DENIED
the Freedom Of information Act request.

My opinion: I think it is sad that the local police are not transparent on information that should be public. Police encrypted and DENY FOIA requests all the time, and yet they claim to be transparent. How is encrypting and DENYING FOIA requests, transparent? Doesn’t the public have the right to know what is going on in their communities. Now we have to rely on information from the very same people who encrypt and deny. How is that even safe for the community??? How can someone be accurate on reporting proper information, when the police lack transparency??? That is EXACTLY WHY mis-information is spread… Not on purpose, but the lack of transparency with the local police departments
