Sheriff Spoden is pleased to announce the Rock County Sheriff’s Office will be offering, three D.N.R. Snowmobile Safety Education Courses beginning in October 2018. Anyone born on or after Jan 1st, 1985 is required to complete this course in order to legally operate a snowmobile in places open to the public.

There is a class fee of $10.00 per student, which will be collected at the time of registration. A parent/guardian signature is required for all persons under the age of 18 and the underage student must be present with an adult parent or guardian at time of registration.
Class size is limited to thirty (30) students. After completing the online enrollment form, you will receive an email with confirmation and the mandatory class registration information.

Suspicious Vehicle Near Elementary School

Janesville: On 10/15/18 at 8:00 AM, four female elementary students from Van Buren School reported that an unidentified stranger had made verbal contact with them, from a passing vehicle, and had asked them if they needed a ride to school.

All four girls were walking west to school near the intersection of W. State St. and S. Oakhill Av. The four girls reported that they ran to an adult crossing guard, just south of this intersection, and reported the incident to school authorities.

School administration and police have contacted the girl’s parents.

The male was described:
M/W, dark hair, shadowed beard, late 20’s to mid-30’s, driving a dark colored gray or blue SUV. The vehicle left traveling west after the girls ran away.

Rockford Scanner™: Suspects Shoot Elderly Man With BB Gun, Police Searching For Suspects

Today we had reports of multiple subjects in the attached photo that were driving in the city firing BB guns.

We had reports on Moore ST and in a few other areas on the west side as well. The license plate is 944SLC and is on a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer EXT.

At 1259pm one subject from this vehicle shot a man who was out mowing his yard in the 1400 block of Moore St causing non-life threatening injuries.

A short time later the vehicle was spotted on Shirland Av and as we attempted to stop the vehicle most of the occupants fled on foot. One juvenile suspect was arrested for Resisting/Obstructing an officer (for fleeing on foot), and for a felony Battery charge as the victim of the BB gun shooting was over age 62.

We are still seeking any information as to who the other occupants of the vehicle were, or if you have video that would cover Moore St, we would ask for you to check your video to see if you have this vehicle on camera.

Update: On 10-9-18 at 11:57 PM Beloit Police had contact with a subject matching the description in the photos released earlier and contacted the Janesville Police Department. The subject was identified as Jeffrey M. Taylor age 37 of Evansville. During the follow up investigation Taylor admitted to numerous crimes including the two in Janesville. Taylor was arrested and is currently at the Rock Co. Jail waiting an initial appearance in court.

Charges: 943.10(1)(a) – Burglary 2 counts
943.20(1)(a) – Theft 2 counts
943.41(5)(a) – Fraudulent use of a credit card 5 counts

Original Message: The Janesville Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in two reported burglaries on Janesville’s east side. In both cases the burglaries occurred during the night while the homeowners were asleep and entry to the homes was through unlocked doors. Wallets and purses were stolen. Shortly after the burglaries, stolen credit cards were used at Walmart. Even though these two incidents are three days apart, the suspect is wearing the same clothing. Residents are urged to lock all doors at night, keep exterior lights on, and call if they recognize this individual.

Rockford Scanner™: Man Arrested After Rolling His Vehicle, Passenger Seriously Injured

On September 23, 2018 at approximately 4:04 a.m., Rock County Sheriff’s Deputies, Town of Turtle Fire Personnel, Town of Beloit EMS and Beloit Paramedics responded to a single vehicle roll-over traffic crash located in a cornfield off of CTH S at CTH BT. The driver, was a 35 year old man from Freeport, IL, passengers, 34 year old man from Freeport, IL and 27 year old man from Lena, IL.

The investigation revealed a black Lincoln MKX SUV was traveling eastbound on County Highway BT and failed to stop for the marked T-intersection with County Highway S. The MKX continued east through the intersection, impacted the ditch, rolled several times as it was airborne and came to rest on its roof facing west in a cornfield. The driver and front seat passenger were wearing seat belts.

The back seat passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained substantial injuries.

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of the driver, Cori Reed, for Causing Injury by Intoxicated Use of Motor Vehicle, Causing Great Bodily Harm by Intoxicated Use of Motor Vehicle and Operating While Intoxicated-1st.

On 08-17-18 at approximately midnight the Janesville Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at 1951 Center Avenue, Janesville. When the officers arrived they learned that approximately three shots were fired in the parking lot of the gas station. This investigation is ongoing, however we are attempting to gather information on individuals that were at the scene, but who left prior to speaking with the police.

After reviewing the surveillance video from the gas station we have identified the following subject who fired a round into a group of people in the parking lot. Rockford Scanner™: Small Aircraft Crashes Into A Nearby Bridge, Pilot In Critical Condition




On 08/18/2018 at 9:31 am Janesville Police and Fire responded to an ultralight aircraft (single man aircraft with a motor, single propeller and parachute) crash at the Memorial Bridge.

The pilot was traveling from north to south and collided with the Memorial Bridge. The forty-eight year old pilot sustained non-life threatening, but critical injuries.

He was the only person injured and was transported to a local medical center by Janesville Fire for treatment.

The investigation of the accident is still on-going and will be done jointly between the Janesville Police Department and the Milwaukee Flights Standards Division of the Federal Aviation Administration.

Saturday around 10:01 AM officers from the Janesville Police Department attempted to make contact with two subjects in the area of S. Grant and King St.

Both subjects fled through the neighborhood and were later taken into custody without incident.

There is no public safety concerns at this time. This investigation was conducted jointly with the Beloit Police Department.

Rockford Scanner™: BREAKING: Airplane Crashes Near Roscoe, Several Emergency Personnel En Route

UPDATE: The plane is a Piper aircraft that is registered to DBG AVIATION INC out of Roscoe, Illinois. 

Three people were injured. One male, One Female, and unknown on the 3rd victim.  (Possible juvenile female) 

At least one person was flown by helicopter to a local hospital. 

They took 2 victims from the plane via an ATV, and one victim from the plane straight to an ambulance and then to the emergency helicopter. 

Two of them were alive and conscious and had bandages around their heads. Two appeared to have head injuries. Unknown on the 3rd victim.  

The cause of the accident is under investigation.  Unconfirmed, but possible mechanical issue. Reports of the aircraft losing power, just prior to crashing.

The airplane had just taken off from the airport, just prior to the accident.  It crashed in the middle of the cornfield, just a few hundred yards from the IL/WI border.

The pilot, was one of the first people to call emergency personnel.

On 08/12/18 at 0832 hour the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department, South Beloit Police Department, and local Fire Departments were dispatched to a cornfield in the area of Manchester Rd. East of Gardner Rd. for a plane crash. The airplane was found in a cornfield several hundred yards south of the runway of the Beloit Airport. This cornfield was just into Illinois by a few hundred yards.

Shortly after 8:00 A.M. this morning the private airplane (A Piper Lance airplane), took off from the Beloit Airport enroute to the Wisconsin Dells Area. Shortly after takeoff witnesses saw the airplane crash into the field South of the Runway. The crash site was located by first responders. First responders rendered aid to the passengers on board the airplane.

There were 3 people on the plane. A Male adult Pilot, a female adult passenger, and a juvenile female passenger. The adult pilot and the juvenile passenger were transported to a local hospital and were treated and released from the hospital. The adult female passenger is being treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies have secured the scene and the investigation will be conducted by The NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) and the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration).

Around 2 pm today emergency personnel were responding to a body in the Rock River. 

A body was approx. 20 feet from the shoreline in the area of Centerway st bridge in Janesville. 

The victim is an older male, approx. 65 years old or older. 

Autopsy is scheduled for tomm.  




Rockford Scanner™: Approx. 50 Bases Were Stolen Off Of Poles Overnight, Police Searching For The Suspects & Bases

Good morning. We need your help quick this morning Beloit.

This morning around 5am approximately 50 of these decorative bases were removed from the street lights on Prairie Av north of Hart Rd.

A witness observed an older white Buick Lesabre with 2 male black subjects removing the bases. The vehicle was last seen at Prairie and Elmwood. We are looking for that car and the bases for the lights.

If you see someone removing parts to a pole and they are not in a vehicle with markings on it, or in uniform, we would always encourage you to call in a suspicious activity. If you see this vehicle today with 2 males within the next hour or so (910 am) please call 7572244 right away. Thanks.

Rockford Scanner™: Police Identify Shooting Suspect, Need Publics Help Catching Suspect




We have identified a suspect in Wednesday afternoon’s shooting on Oak Street as Deangelo Thomas, 20, who has ties to the Rockford and Beloit area.

Information indicates that Thomas and another suspect were attempting to rob the 15-year-old male victim. The 41-year-old male victim attempted to intervene on the 15-year-old’s behalf. The 41-year-old male is in stable but serious condition after being shot in the abdomen. The 15-year-old male is in stable condition after being shot in the legs.

The second suspect is described as a male black with a darker complexion between 5’8” and 5’9”, a thin to average build with a goatee wearing a white baseball hat, a baby blue hooded sweatshirt, black pants and baby blue retro Air Jordan shoes.

We are also looking for a newer model quad-cab full-size silver pickup truck that was used in this incident.

If you have information on either suspect or the pickup truck, please call 608-757-2244. If you spot either suspects, please call 911 immediately. The suspects are considered and dangerous, however this was not a random act and is considered an isolated incident.

Sources reporting at least two people have been shot. 

It happened in the area of the 700 block of Oak in Beloit. 

Update: 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1: 2 individuals were shot in this incident. One victim was transported to Mercy in Janesville where that individual is in critical but stable condition. The other victim was transported to Beloit Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition.

We are continuing to investigate and will share more information on our Facebook when we can.

(AP) – Authorities say 15 people were taken to hospitals after an ammonia leak at a Birds Eye food plant in southeastern Wisconsin.

Multiple agencies responded early Sunday to the plant in the Village of Darien.

Authorities say 140 people were working overnight at the factory when alarms and sensors started going off. Ammonia is used at the facility for the freezing and cooling of food.

A hazardous materials team official says 15 people were taken to five area hospitals. New Jersey-based Pinnacle Foods, which owns Birds Eye, said Sunday night that most have been released, while three people remain under observation.

Seventy-five workers were checked at the scene and released. The Janesville Gazette reports authorities suspect a “mechanical malfunction” led to the leak.

Officials say there is no threat to the community.

An apartment is on fire near 940 W Grand in Beloit.

A line of thunderstorms will move northeast across far northwest Illinois through 8 pm this evening. Some of these storms may be strong to severe with damaging winds the primary threat, along with heavy rain. Additional thunderstorms across northeast Iowa will move across northern Illinois later this evening and will likely be weakening as they move across the area. Strong wind gusts and heavy rain will also be possible with these storms


Thunderstorms are likely to move into parts of northern Illinois this evening, including the Rockford metropolitan area.

Depending on how quickly and how organized the thunderstorms are when they move in, isolated strong to severe wind gusts will be possible.

Occasional to frequent cloud to ground lightning and very heavy downpours will be likely with any thunderstorm.

The thunderstorms should weaken with eastward extent across northern Illinois later this evening into the overnight
